5 Tips for Spring Cleaning Your Kitchen + Free Printable Checklist
Spring has officially sprung and with it an opportunity to renew and refresh your space with a top-to-bottom deep clean. Now’s the time to pay special attention to every nook and cranny of your home, from the entryway closet to the tops of your ceiling fans. But there’s one room in particular that deserves a thorough spring cleaning—your kitchen.
Kitchens are often the most loved (and most dirty) areas of your home. Check out these 5 tips to achieve a sparkling clean kitchen this season.
1. Organize, Organize, Organize
If you’re going to take out and put away all the items in your cupboards, doors, and fridge, why not take the opportunity to declutter and reorganize? Throw out expired food as you go, and set aside cooking utensils, appliances, one-off mugs, and other items you don’t use to donate.
When putting items back, be mindful of where the best place for them should be. For example, you probably wouldn’t want to store your spices opposite your prep area. You may also want to add food storage containers to avoid spills and keep your food fresh longer in your fridge and pantry.
2. Deep Clean Your Appliances
This may seem like an obvious one, but there are hidden components to your appliances that often get overlooked during spring cleaning. Your dishwasher, for example, has a gasket and filter that should be cleaned regularly to keep it running smoothly (and smelling nice). Spring cleaning is the one time of year to focus on these small details of your home, so try to be as thorough as possible!
3. Clean Does Not Mean Sanitized
According to Dr. Charles Gerba, a microbiologist at the University of Arizona, in most cases, it's safer to make a salad on a toilet seat than it is on a cutting board. Sometimes your kitchen needs more than a quick wipe down.
Use spring cleaning as an opportunity to disinfect your countertops, sink, garbage disposal, countertop appliances (like your coffee maker), and cutting boards.
4. Move Your Appliances
Think about all the little crumbs that fall into the dark abyss between your countertop and stove—now is the time to address that. Get help moving your fridge and stove away from the wall so you can vacuum and mop behind your appliances and wipe the sides of your cabinets.
5. Follow a Kitchen Spring Cleaning Checklist
Cleaning your entire kitchen can be a little overwhelming. To help you divide and conquer this project, create a checklist to track your progress. This kitchen spring cleaning checklist from Kitchen Cabinet Kings is easy to follow and tackles all the major areas of your kitchen.
Starting the season off with a pristine, fresh kitchen will be worth the work.
Take your time when undergoing a kitchen deep clean and pay attention to detail. No one is expecting you to complete all these tasks in a day!
