Why I Love the ARC Binding System
~ Originally posted February 21, 2019 ~
Since I started bullet journaling I've been using a Leuchturm1917 but I recently switched to the ARC Binding System from Staples. (note: I am not an affiliate of Staples)
If you've never heard of the ARC System, it's a disc-bound system that is completely customizable to help you stay organized. It is endlessly adaptable and is especially useful in planning and carrying out major projects.
Personally, I think the disc system notebooks are the most versatile and useful available today.
I'm currently using the larger version for my daily bullet journal/blog planner and I use the smaller version for my Word of the Year journal.
I’m currently using a one and half-inch discs with a notebook to store any papers and/or notes I want to save for later. I have everything separated into sections and love that I can slip pages in and out as I need them without a hassle.
I actually have two of these, one for personal notes & ideas and one for my blog & business.
I also have a notebook with one-inch discs for my daily planner. I rotate the monthly planning pages for the current quarter so I don’t have a great big binder to lug around with me. I also have a section in the back for any projects I’m currently working on.
Why I love the ARC Binding System:
The PROs
I can easily remove pages (without damaging them) from one Arc notebook and transfer them to another Arc notebook
I can also easily move pages around within the same notebook
There are plenty of accessories such as plastic sleeves, pocket folders, and zip-lock pockets that you can include with your notebook
There are also clear covers available made of durable poly which make for easy personalization
The discs don’t get in the way when I'm writing like other binders can and you can fold the notebook back on itself like a spiral notebook
I can easily add more pages throughout the year. I usually keep about 3 months’ worth of planner pages in my notebook at one time to avoid it becoming too bulky
I can punch pages smaller than the size of the notebook like index cards and half pages to add any notes or for small lists and reminders
Larger discs are available so I can add as much paper as I need (and the rings aren’t too expensive)
Most notebooks come with pre-lined writing paper that is thick and sturdy (although I remove these pages and replace them with my own printables and planner pages)
The covers come in a variety of colors, designs, and sizes
Less bulky and more portable than 3-ring binders
The Cons
It can be expensive – you’ll need to purchase the custom notebook (or just a cover), the paper punch, and the discs.
I said it can be expensive because the prices can vary depending on the notebook/cover you choose. I purchased a smaller quilted notebook, with paper, and it was about $28. But the thin plastic covers, without paper included, are only about $5 or less.
The 1" discs are about $3 and the dividers are $5. So, for less than $15 you can put together a fabulous notebook that you will love and use daily!
